NitroPhone 10a is a security-focused smartphone based on the Google Pixel 10a and supplied by Nitrokey with GrapheneOS pre-installed. It is designed for users who value privacy, protection against modern attacks, and control over their own data. Google Play Services are not integrated by default, a Google account is not required for initial setup, and you decide which services and apps you want to use.
Titan M2 hardware security
The Titan M2 security coprocessor helps protect cryptographic keys and verify system integrity, while Verified Boot helps ensure that the device software has not been tampered with. GrapheneOS also supports Auto Reboot, which automatically restarts a locked smartphone after a configurable period without a successful unlock. A Duress PIN or password can be configured to permanently erase the device data.
Protection against spyware, zero-day exploits, and network attacks
NitroPhone 10a uses multiple layers of GrapheneOS security to reduce the attack surface and make unknown vulnerabilities harder to exploit. In addition to MTE, a hardened app sandbox, and reinforced system components, special attention is given to cellular connectivity. The baseband is isolated from the main system through hardware-based mechanisms, while LTE-only mode lets you disable older cellular standards when needed, further reducing the number of potentially vulnerable components.
Google Play — only if you need it
The absence of Google Play Services by default does not mean giving up your usual Android apps. If needed, the original Google Play Services and Play Store can be installed as regular sandboxed apps. They do not receive privileged system access and, like other apps, can access only the data and device features you explicitly allow.
Less opportunity for tracking
GrapheneOS restricts ordinary apps from accessing sensitive hardware identifiers that could be used to track users. Wi-Fi uses MAC address randomization, while access to the network, sensors, camera, microphone, location, contacts, and files can be controlled in detail. The system also displays indicators when the camera, microphone, or location is being used.
Physical control over hardware components
In its standard configuration, NitroPhone 10a comes with all standard hardware components, including microphones, cameras, and sensors. Secure communication
For private messaging, voice calls, and video calls, Nitrokey recommends end-to-end encrypted services such as Signal and NitroChat. Companies and teams can also use Matrix with their own server. This helps protect confidential communication while allowing you to retain full control over it when needed.
Encrypted backups
Your smartphone data can be regularly stored in an encrypted backup. NitroPhone supports end-to-end encrypted backups to a USB drive or a cloud storage service of your choice, such as Nextcloud. You decide where your backup is stored instead of being tied to Google Drive or another mandatory cloud service.
A modern smartphone for everyday use
Enhanced security does not mean giving up the features of a modern smartphone. NitroPhone 10a is built on the Google Pixel 10a hardware platform and features a 6.3-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, a Google Tensor G4 processor, and 8 GB of RAM. For crypto and Web3
NitroPhone 10a works well as a separate, protected environment for using cryptocurrencies. You can install mobile wallets, exchange apps, 2FA tools, and other crypto services while independently controlling their access to the network, files, and contacts. Open source and hardware attestation
GrapheneOS is open source, allowing its security mechanisms and modifications to be independently reviewed.
