#Safepal tutorial. SafePal S1 shows no balance: why that’s normal and where to check your funds
SafePal S1 shows no balance on its screen: someone has sent you cryptocurrency, the funds appear in SafePal App, but the S1 displays no balance or shows zero. Your first thought may be that the device is faulty or the coins are gone. Neither is true. This is how the S1 is designed to work. Below, we explain why this happens and when a zero balance may indicate a real problem.
Why SafePal S1 shows no balance on its screen
The S1 is an air-gapped wallet, meaning it is completely isolated from the internet. It has no Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or NFC connectivity, and the cable is used only for charging. All communication with the phone takes place through QR codes, which the device scans with its built-in camera and displays on its own screen. The S1 has no way to connect to the blockchain and check how much cryptocurrency is currently held at your addresses.
Your coins are not stored “inside” the wallet. They are recorded on the blockchain. The S1 stores only the private key that gives you control over those funds. SafePal App on your phone handles all internet-related activity: it monitors your addresses, retrieves balance information from the network, and displays the latest figures. The private key never leaves the device.
The absence of a live balance on the S1 screen is therefore a direct result of the isolation that makes the wallet secure. An online attacker cannot reach the private key, but the device itself also cannot connect to the network to check the current state of your addresses.
Where to check your balance: SafePal App
The correct place to check your balance is SafePal App, which is paired with your S1. Once the devices are paired, the app displays all relevant wallet information, including addresses, balances, and transaction history. Your seed phrase and private key remain on the offline device.
If you have not paired the device with the app yet, open SafePal App, tap “Add Wallet,” select “Bind with SafePal S1,” and scan the QR codes shown on the phone and the S1. As of July 2026, these menu options use those exact names. The complete process is described in the official SafePal S1 user manual.
To verify the balance independently of SafePal, enter your address in a blockchain explorer — a website that reads information directly from the blockchain. You can use Etherscan for Ethereum or Blockchair for Bitcoin. This is the quickest way to confirm that the coins are still held at the correct address.
Why the figures shown on the S1 may be inaccurate
The S1 has an Asset Management section that displays coins and some balance information. However, these figures are not synchronized with the blockchain. When someone sends cryptocurrency to your address, the device does not know about the incoming transaction because it remains offline. Information about a new token or an updated balance reaches the S1 only when you use the device to sign an outgoing transaction involving that token. SafePal states in its official support article that the balance displayed on the hardware wallet is not an accurate figure and that users should rely on the app instead.
Do you need to transfer coins from the app to the device?
No. This is another common question, and SafePal’s answer is clear: there is nothing to transfer because neither the app nor the device stores the assets themselves. The coins are recorded on the blockchain, while access to them is controlled by the private key stored on the S1. When the wallet is paired with the device, every outgoing transaction must be physically approved on the S1. Your funds are therefore already protected by the hardware wallet, even if its screen shows outdated figures.
How to receive cryptocurrency while the wallet is offline
You do not need the device to receive an incoming transfer. Open SafePal App, select the coin and network, tap Receive, and share the address or QR code with the sender. An incoming transaction does not require a signature, so the S1 can remain switched off and stored safely. You will need the device later when you decide to send those coins.
The main detail to check is the transfer network. If the sender sends a token through a network that is not enabled in your app’s asset list, the token may not appear in SafePal App even though it is present at your address on the blockchain.
When a zero balance indicates a real problem
Everything described above applies only to the screen of the hardware wallet itself. If SafePal App shows a zero balance, the situation needs to be investigated. There are three common causes:
If none of these steps resolves the issue, you can contact our support team.
Where to buy SafePal and which models are available
As of July 2026, SafePal offers three hardware wallet models: the entry-level S1, the S1 Pro with an aluminium body, and the X1. Note that the X1 connects to a phone through Bluetooth rather than QR codes, so it belongs to a different class of device. The balance behaviour described in this guide applies specifically to the SafePal S1 and S1 Pro.
There are two ways to purchase an S1. The first is through the official SafePal store, directly from the manufacturer, with international delivery. The second is through Lwallet, with local delivery across Ukraine, no waiting for customs clearance, technical support, and free setup assistance. Both options are suitable — the choice is yours.
