Blockstream Jade is built primarily for Bitcoin. The device supports BTC, Liquid Bitcoin (L-BTC) and Liquid Network assets, including USDt on Liquid.

Jade is not a general-purpose multi-currency wallet for Ethereum, Solana, XRP or other independent blockchains.

Yes. The built-in camera lets you carry out air-gapped Bitcoin transactions via QR codes. Jade reads the transaction data from your phone or computer screen, signs it inside the device and displays a response QR code.

Liquid Network assets require a USB-C or Bluetooth connection.

The Blind Oracle is Blockstream’s open security model, which works as a virtual Secure Element. Part of the decryption mechanism is stored separately from the device, so physical access to a locked Jade alone isn’t enough to extract the private keys.

The Oracle doesn’t know your addresses, balance, seed phrase or real PIN. You can use Blockstream’s server or run your own Blind Oracle.

Yes. Both the hardware architecture and the firmware of Blockstream Jade are open source. This allows independent specialists to study the device, audit its security features and reproduce firmware builds.

SeedQR is a way of representing your recovery phrase as a QR code. Jade can scan that code with its camera and temporarily load the wallet for signing.

In stateless signing mode, wallet data isn’t stored permanently on the device and is erased once you log out or restart. A SeedQR must be kept as securely as an ordinary seed phrase and should never be scanned with an internet-connected phone or computer.

A duress PIN is an additional PIN that makes Jade erase the encrypted wallet data from the device when entered. After that, access to your funds can only be restored from a recovery phrase backup.

The feature is designed to protect you if you’re physically coerced or the device is stolen. Before enabling it, make sure your seed phrase has been backed up correctly.

Yes. Blockstream Jade has a built-in 240 mAh battery, so you can use it without keeping a cable plugged in — including with a smartphone over Bluetooth or when working with QR codes.

Jade supports three main connection methods: USB-C, Bluetooth and QR codes. USB-C connects the device to a computer or a compatible Android device, Bluetooth is convenient with a smartphone, and QR codes let you sign Bitcoin transactions with no wired or wireless connection at all.

The manufacturer recommends the Blockstream app. Jade is also compatible with a number of third-party Bitcoin clients, including Sparrow, Nunchuk, Specter, BlueWallet, Electrum, Wasabi, Liana and others.

The connection options available depend on the specific app. Thanks to HWI support, the device can also be used with Bitcoin Core.

No. For a basic setup you need to switch Jade on, connect it to a compatible app, create a new wallet or restore an existing one, and write down your recovery phrase securely.

After that you can receive Bitcoin, build transactions in the app and confirm them on the hardware wallet itself. More advanced features — QR signing, SeedQR, passphrase and multisig — can come later.

A hardware wallet keeps your private keys away from your phone, your computer and online services. Even if the connected device is infected with malware, the transaction still has to be checked and approved on Jade itself.

This reduces the risks that come with exchanges, custodial services and keeping Bitcoin in a software wallet alone.
