Over the past year, exchanges have closed some fiat payment channels, banks have continued scrutinising risky transactions, and Ukraine’s parliament has moved towards a separate tax framework for crypto assets. If you do not keep up with these changes, you could face a blocked transaction, an unfavourable exchange rate or restrictions on your bank account. In this guide, we explain which conversion methods are available as of 30 September 2026, what risks they pose to your bank account and how to prepare.

Ukraine ranked seventh in the 2026 Chainalysis Global Crypto Adoption Index. You sell your crypto to a specific buyer, who sends money to your bank card or account. The exchange locks the coins in escrow during the trade and releases them to the buyer after you confirm receipt of payment. Escrow protects the crypto side of the trade, but does not guarantee the safety of the bank payment.

P2P can be convenient if you already have an exchange account and want to sell crypto without signing up for another service.

Which exchanges support hryvnia (UAH) in P2P?

Binance P2P supports trades in hryvnia. From 15 September 2026, OKX separates bank payment methods in its UAH market into “Card” and “IBAN”, so the payment details must match the method specified in the ad.

Bybit P2P has a USDT/UAH market with bank payment methods. The available banks and limits depend on the ad. Direct fiat services have separate restrictions: Bybit’s official list places Ukraine among the restricted identity-verification (KYC) countries for SWIFT in PLN and USD, as well as SEPA in EUR. This does not amount to a ban on all UAH P2P trading. Bybit Card eligibility is also governed by a separate card programme.

WhiteBIT P2P Express is an automated way to exchange USDT for UAH and vice versa. You enter the amount and payment details, while a third-party P2P provider processes the transaction. According to the official documentation, processing usually takes between one minute and an hour. There is no separate P2P Express fee, but conversion costs are reflected in the rate and final amount. UAH availability depends on the country recorded during your KYC identity verification.

The main P2P risk

P2P may look straightforward, but scammers also use this route. Two common schemes are:

Scheme 1: fake proof of payment. The buyer sends a forged SMS, message or screenshot that looks like confirmation from a bank. You confirm payment and release the coins even though no money has arrived. Check the actual credit in your banking app, rather than relying on the buyer’s messages or screenshots.

Scheme 2: payment from someone else’s card. The money arrives, the amount matches and you release the crypto. Later, you may discover that the transfer came from a compromised account or involved a third party who was being scammed. The payment may be disputed, and the bank may restrict transactions while it investigates. There is no single rule that automatically reverses every type of transfer, but the risk of a dispute and loss remains.

What to check before completing a P2P trade:

Do not release crypto until the full amount appears in your account in the banking app. The P2P status, an SMS or a screenshot does not confirm that the money has arrived.

Check that the sender’s name matches the buyer’s verified name on the platform. Payment from a different person is a reason to pause the trade and contact exchange support.

Choose counterparties with a verifiable trading history: a high order completion rate, enough completed trades and clear terms. A rating above 95% and several hundred trades can be useful indicators, but are not a guarantee of safety.

If the buyer pressures you, suggests completing the trade outside the platform or asks you to confirm payment before the money arrives, do not release the coins. If the order is already marked as paid, use the appeal process rather than cancelling it without checking the procedure.

Crypto cards

This option is mainly useful if you want to spend crypto on everyday purchases. You visit the website, choose a conversion route such as USDT TRC20 → UAH to a bank card, enter the amount and receiving details, send crypto to the supplied address and receive hryvnia. Before transferring, check the service’s reputation, the network, order terms and payout method. If individuals send you the hryvnia, your bank may view those payments as P2P transfers too.

Costs vary by conversion route, amount and service. A difference of roughly 0.5–4% can serve as a comparison guide, but individual offers may fall outside that range. Many services build their margin into the exchange rate: “no commission” does not mean you receive the market rate. For example, if the quoted rate is 2–3% worse than the price you are comparing it with, that difference is already part of your conversion cost. Compare the final amount you will receive, including network fees.

How to check an online exchange service

Ukraine’s online exchange market includes both long-established businesses and short-lived scam sites designed to take your crypto and disappear. Here are some checks to make:

Use aggregators to shortlist services. They collect exchange offers and help you compare rates, conversion routes, reviews and reserves. A directory listing provides more information to check, but does not guarantee reliability; being absent from a directory does not prove fraud either. Review the service’s history, domain and terms.

Available reserves must cover your amount. If you want to exchange $5,000 but the service shows only $2,000 in available reserves, your order may be rejected or delayed. For a large amount, confirm the reserve with support before sending crypto.

Find out when the rate is locked. Some services lock it when you place the order; others wait until the crypto arrives or receives enough confirmations. If the market moves sharply between sending and receipt, the final amount may differ from the initial quote.

Read the anti-money laundering (AML) rules covering the origin of crypto assets and wallet-address risk. Find out which documents may be requested, when an order can be put on hold and how funds are returned. AML screening alone does not establish that a service is lawful or reliable. Checking an address does not require your seed phrase or permission to spend your tokens.

Exchange-service aggregators and directories

Start with directories and comparison platforms rather than picking a service at random. The bill’s rates and relief cannot be treated as rules already in force before final passage and entry into effect.

[/vc_message]

The tax base when selling crypto

According to State Tax Service guidance dated 13 May 2026, money an individual receives from selling cryptocurrency forms part of their annual taxable income. The general rates are 18% personal income tax (PIT) and a 5% military levy. The guidance describes the tax base as the amount received, rather than just the difference between purchase and sale prices. Each case should be assessed using the relevant documents.

[vc_message color=”warning” message_box_style=”classic” message_box_color=”alert-warning” style=”rounded”]

Bill No. 10225-d proposes a different approach: separate accounting for the financial result and taxation of trading profits. Under that model, buying Bitcoin for $10,000 and selling it for $15,000 would produce a $5,000 profit before accounting for other transactions, expenses and the annual calculation rules. It also proposes exempting income from exchanging one virtual asset for another. These are proposals in the bill, not grounds for treating every crypto exchange as tax-free today.

[/vc_message]

The reduced rate in the transitional provisions

The published draft provides for 5% PIT on income from selling assets acquired before the law takes effect. The base for this relief is the proceeds received, not the profit. Budget Committee materials link it to the 2026 reporting year, so promising “a year after the law passes” would misrepresent this version of the draft.

[vc_message color=”warning” message_box_style=”classic” message_box_color=”alert-warning” style=”rounded”]

A proposed 5% PIT rate does not automatically mean a 5% total tax bill. The military levy must be assessed separately under the final rules. If the general 5% levy remains, the combined burden could be 10%, but this relief would apply to sale proceeds rather than profit.

[/vc_message]

Paying tax does not guarantee that your bank will have no questions. Evidence of the assets’ origin, sale documents and tax reporting serve different purposes, so keep the full documentary trail.

[vc_message color=”warning” message_box_style=”classic” message_box_color=”alert-warning” style=”rounded”]

Before a large sale, discuss the documents and calculation with a tax professional. The final rules, dates and conditions for relief may change before the law is passed.

[/vc_message]

How to convert crypto to fiat: which option should you choose?

Compare the methods by your goal, costs and the main risk:

Method

Speed

Costs

Main risk

Best suited to

Online exchange service

Roughly 5–30 minutes; delays are possible

About 0.5–4% built into the rate; possible additional charges

Service reliability; payout method; bank checks

Receiving hryvnia without finding a buyer yourself

Exchange P2P

Depends on the order and payment; often minutes

The ad’s rate, platform fees and payment-provider charges

Scams, third-party payments and AML checks

People who already have an exchange account

Crypto card

Payments are usually immediate; issuance takes separate time

Card, funding and conversion fees

Programme eligibility, issuer checks and funds held with a service

Everyday spending

P2P between people you know

As agreed, allowing for network confirmations

No intermediary fee; network and bank fees may apply

Whether the agreement is honoured, plus banking and tax issues

Smaller exchanges with someone you trust

In-person / cash exchange

As agreed; from an hour to several hours

Roughly 1–2%; confirm the service’s rate and charges

Personal safety, banknotes and documentation

Receiving USD, EUR or another currency in cash

The times and costs in the table depend on the service, conversion route, amount and checks. Consider the final amount, counterparty safety, bank checks and taxes when choosing. Online services, P2P, crypto cards and cash exchanges carry different risks, which do not disappear when you switch methods.

If you need hryvnia in your account, compare a vetted online exchange service with P2P on an exchange where you already have an account. For everyday spending, consider a crypto card you are eligible for; for US dollars or euros in cash, use an exchange at a verified office. Prepare your documents before large or regular trades. In P2P, always verify the actual payment and sender details rather than relying only on the buyer’s rating.

[vc_message color=”warning” message_box_style=”classic” message_box_color=”alert-warning” style=”rounded”]

Do not postpone tax recordkeeping until a new law is passed. The proposed relief is not yet in force; check the final rates, dates and calculation base against the enacted text.

[/vc_message]

From 2 February 2026, according to the State Financial Monitoring Service, new reporting formats and an electronic portal were introduced for exchanging information with reporting entities.
