Its official documentation uses the term passcode: you can use a numeric PIN or a more complex password containing numbers, letters, and symbols. For simplicity, this guide uses a <strong>numeric PIN<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<ol class=\"nm-block-list wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Choose a PIN that is difficult to guess. For a numeric code, we recommend <strong>at least 8 digits<\/strong><\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Enter the PIN on the touchscreen keypad and double-check it before confirming<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Enter the PIN again to confirm it<\/li>\r\n\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not use birthdays, simple sequences such as 123456 or 111111, or the PIN from a bank card. A random number you can reliably remember is a better choice. If you write the PIN down, store it separately from the seed phrase and in a different location.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>[vc_message color=&#8221;info&#8221; message_box_style=&#8221;classic&#8221; message_box_color=&#8221;alert-info&#8221; style=&#8221;rounded&#8221;]<\/p>\r\n<p>If you forget the PIN, use the built-in [Forgot Passcode] flow with seed phrase verification rather than repeatedly guessing. Keystone\u2019s documentation lists the path as [\u00b7\u00b7\u00b7] &gt; [Device Settings] &gt; [Wallet Settings] &gt; [Fingerprint &amp; Passcode] &gt; [Reset Passcode] &gt; [Forgot Passcode]. The exact location can vary by device state and firmware version, but resetting the passcode requires a correctly recorded seed phrase.<\/p>\r\n<p>[\/vc_message]<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"nm-block-heading wp-block-heading\">Name the wallet (Name Wallet)<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After you set the access code, Keystone will ask you to name the wallet, for example Main Wallet or Trading 2026. The name is only there to help you tell wallets apart on the device. You can skip this step and rename the wallet later under [Device Settings] &gt; [Wallet Settings]. Do not put personal or confidential information in the wallet name.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>[vc_message color=&#8221;warning&#8221; message_box_style=&#8221;classic&#8221; message_box_color=&#8221;alert-warning&#8221; style=&#8221;rounded&#8221;]<\/p>\r\n<p>Keystone 3 Pro supports up to three different seed phrases on one device, each with its own password. Additional wallets are created under [\u00b7\u00b7\u00b7] &gt; [Device Settings] &gt; [Wallet Settings] &gt; [+ Add Wallet]. Use a separate password for each wallet and store each seed phrase separately.<\/p>\r\n<p>[\/vc_message]<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"nm-block-heading wp-block-heading\">Generate and record the seed phrase<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A seed phrase, also called a mnemonic phrase,<\/strong> is a sequence of words from the BIP39 word list from which the wallet can deterministically recover its cryptographic keys and addresses. If the device is lost, damaged, or destroyed, a correctly recorded seed phrase can restore access in a compatible wallet.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If someone gets the seed phrase for a standard wallet,<\/strong> they can restore that wallet without knowing the PIN for your Keystone. That is why a seed phrase should never be photographed or stored on an internet-connected device or service.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<ol class=\"nm-block-list wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>When you create a new standard wallet, Keystone generates a <strong>24-word seed phrase<\/strong>. Write the words down in exactly the order shown on the device<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Read the security warnings on the screen carefully. Keystone will remind you to make sure no one else can see the screen, there are no surveillance cameras aimed at it, and your phone is not pointed at the device<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Keystone displays the words one at a time. Write each word by hand on the Secret Recovery Sheet as it appears. The words are numbered, so preserve the exact order<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Check each word immediately after writing it down. A single wrong letter or a changed word order can prevent recovery. Pay extra attention to similar BIP39 words such as board\/boat, wood\/wool, and coin\/coil<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>After all words are recorded, tap [Next]. Keystone will ask you to identify several randomly selected words from multiple choices to confirm that you copied the phrase correctly<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Once the confirmation is complete, the wallet is created<\/li>\r\n\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n<p>[vc_message color=&#8221;warning&#8221; message_box_style=&#8221;classic&#8221; message_box_color=&#8221;alert-warning&#8221; style=&#8221;rounded&#8221;]<\/p>\r\n<p>Do not photograph the seed phrase or type it into ordinary internet-connected devices or services. Do not store it in iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, Google Docs, Notion, Telegram, email, or a password manager, and avoid reading it aloud near devices with active voice assistants. Write it down by hand or transfer it to a metal backup. If you have reason to believe the seed phrase was exposed to a digital device or another person, treat it as potentially compromised and move the funds to a wallet created from a new seed phrase.<\/p>\r\n<p>[\/vc_message]<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"nm-block-heading wp-block-heading\">Store the seed phrase securely<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The included Secret Recovery Sheet<\/strong> is fine as an initial backup, but paper is vulnerable to fire, water, fading, and physical damage. For long-term storage, consider a <a href=\"https:\/\/lwallet.com.ua\/en\/product-category\/mnemonic-pads\/\">metal seed phrase backup<\/a>:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"nm-block-list wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Keystone Tablet Plus<\/strong>, Keystone\u2019s own metal backup plate<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Cryptosteel Capsule<\/strong>, a popular steel option<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Billfodl, Blockplate<\/strong>, and other alternatives available on the market<\/li>\r\n\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Practical backup guidelines:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"nm-block-list wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>The paper Secret Recovery Sheet works as an initial backup if it is kept dry, stored separately from the device, and protected from unauthorized access<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>For long-term storage or for an amount whose loss would materially affect you, a metal backup is the safer option. Every complete copy of the seed phrase provides full access to the funds, so keep additional copies only in secure locations you control<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>If you want to distribute recovery across several locations without keeping a complete seed phrase in each one, consider Shamir Backup. Make sure you understand the recovery threshold and how the individual shares must be stored before using it<\/li>\r\n\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p>[vc_message color=&#8221;warning&#8221; message_box_style=&#8221;classic&#8221; message_box_color=&#8221;alert-warning&#8221; style=&#8221;rounded&#8221;]<\/p>\r\n<p>Keystone 3 Pro supports Shamir Backup using SLIP-39. When creating this type of wallet, the device generates multiple mnemonic shares and you define the recovery threshold, for example two shares out of three. This is a separate wallet-creation flow, not a way to split an existing BIP39 seed phrase. Keystone also supports Passphrase Wallets: an additional secret passphrase derives a different wallet and is not stored on the device, so the passphrase must be backed up separately from the main seed phrase.<\/p>\r\n<p>[\/vc_message]<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"nm-block-heading wp-block-heading\">Step 6. In DeFi, however, a transaction may call a smart contract for actions such as swap, staking, or approve. Adjust the distance or angle slightly if necessary, and wipe the rear camera lens with a soft, dry cloth. If the QR code is animated, keep the camera steady until the device reads the full sequence.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"nm-block-heading wp-block-heading\">The software wallet cannot find Keystone<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Update the app to the latest version.
