How to update SafePal firmware on the S1, S1 Pro and X1: step-by-step guide"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How to update SafePal firmware on the S1, S1 Pro and X1<\/strong>: the SafePal S1 and S1 Pro do not connect to the internet or a computer during normal use, while the X1 communicates with a phone over Bluetooth. That makes firmware updates less familiar than on many other devices: instead of tapping a button in an app, you download a file from the SafePal website and transfer it to the wallet over USB. This guide covers the entire process, which is largely the same for all three models.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SafePal adds new networks and features through firmware releases. For example, versions released on 22 June 2026 added support for non-EVM blockchains to subaccounts. At the time of publication in July 2026, the current versions are V1.0.80 for the S1 and S1 Pro and V1.0.33 for the X1. Always check the latest release on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.safepal.com\/upgrade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">official SafePal upgrade page<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SafePal states that firmware updates are not mandatory. A device running older firmware will continue to work. You can find the SN and current firmware version in the About section of the wallet settings.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>About 10\u201315 minutes.<\/strong> Installing the firmware on the device usually takes between 1 and 3 minutes.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p>[vc_message color=&#8221;warning&#8221; message_box_style=&#8221;classic&#8221; message_box_color=&#8221;alert-warning&#8221; style=&#8221;rounded&#8221;]<\/p>\r\n<p>Before updating, make sure your seed phrase is written down correctly and stored in a safe place. SafePal recommends having a backup in case the update fails. Enter the device SN on its upgrade page, then download the <strong>upgrade.bin<\/strong> firmware file to your computer.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two firmware variants may be available for your device. They offer the same features and differ only in the included interface languages. SafePal explicitly warns that third-party websites offering firmware for its devices may be scams. Check the filename as well: after a repeated download, your browser may save it as upgrade.bin(1) or upgrade.bin(2). On the SafePal S1, the official path is: Settings \u2192 Upgrade \u2192 Backup already \u2192 Enter Upgrade Mode.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This step is essential: unless you manually enter upgrade mode, the computer will not detect the wallet as a storage device. Once the mode is active, a virtual drive similar to a USB flash drive will appear in Windows or macOS.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did the drive fail to appear? First, make sure you actually selected Enter Upgrade Mode on the device. You do not need to open or run the file on your computer; simply copy it to the drive.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The update takes approximately 1\u20133 minutes. Once it is complete, the device is ready to use again. SafePal warns that losing power during the process may cause the update to fail and could damage the device. Do not disconnect the cable until the installation is fully complete.<\/p>\r\n<p>[\/vc_message]<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"nm-block-heading wp-block-heading\">How to verify that the firmware is authentic<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SafePal hardware wallets include a built-in firmware verification mechanism. A counterfeit or modified file should not install successfully on the device.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For an additional manual check, each firmware version has a unique SHA-256 hash listed on the download page. Calculate the SHA-256 hash of the downloaded file and compare it with the value published by SafePal. If the values match exactly, the file is authentic.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"nm-block-heading wp-block-heading\">When to contact support<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have checked the cable, USB port, filename and upgrade mode but the device is still not detected or the firmware will not install, SafePal recommends recording a short video of the entire process and <a href=\"https:\/\/safepalsupport.zendesk.com\/hc\/en-us\/requests\/new?ticket_form_id=360001760732\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">submitting a request to official support<\/a>. The video will help the team diagnose the problem more quickly.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the device is new and does not work immediately after unboxing, contact the seller at the same time. In April 2025, SafePal moved its hardware wallet line from CC EAL 5+ Secure Element chips to CC EAL 6+. This is a physically different chip, so firmware cannot turn an EAL 5+ device into an EAL 6+ device.
