You connect your Trezor to your computer, open Trezor Suite, and the app says it cannot find the device. There is usually no need to worry: in most cases, this does not mean your Trezor is broken. According to the official Trezor troubleshooting guide, the cable is the most common culprit, and replacing it often solves the problem. Below, we cover every recommended step, starting with the simplest fixes. Follow them in order and check whether Trezor Suite detects your device after each step.

Trezor Suite not detecting your device? Not every USB cable can transfer data: some cables, especially those supplied with power banks or inexpensive devices, are designed for charging only.

[vc_message color=”warning” message_box_style=”classic” message_box_color=”alert-warning” style=”rounded”]

If your Trezor screen lights up, that does not necessarily mean the cable supports data transfer. A charge-only cable can still power the device, but it cannot send data. The first thing to try is another cable that you know supports data transfer, such as one you have previously used to transfer files to a phone.

[/vc_message]

If your Trezor Model One is running old firmware

This situation requires a different approach. Trezor discontinued the older Trezor Bridge component and replaced it with nodeBridge, which is built into Trezor Suite. As a result, current versions of Suite can no longer detect a Model One running firmware version 1.7.0 or earlier, released before September 2018. These devices use the old HID transport protocol, which is no longer supported. You can find more information in the official Trezor Bridge documentation.

Trezor recommends updating the device using an older version of Suite that still supports HID:

Download and install Trezor Suite version 25.1.2. This version still supports HID.

Launch Trezor Suite and connect your Model One.

Go to Settings → Device and scroll down to the Firmware section.

Click Update Available and follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware.

Once the firmware update is complete, update Trezor Suite itself: go to Settings → Application, scroll to the Application section, and click Get the latest version.

Once both updates are complete, Trezor Suite should detect your Model One as soon as you connect and unlock it.

Update the USB drivers on Windows

If the cable works but Windows still does not detect your Trezor, the official troubleshooting guide recommends installing Zadig. This utility can install universal USB drivers such as WinUSB, libusb-win32, and libusbK.

Download Zadig from the official repository.

Open Zadig.

Connect your Trezor in bootloader mode.

In Zadig, go to Options → List All Devices.

Select a device with a name such as “Unknown Device #1”.

From the driver menu to the right of the green arrow, select libusb0 (v1.2.6.0).

Click Install Driver or Replace Driver and wait for the process to finish.

Close Zadig and restart your computer.

Disconnect your Trezor, open Trezor Suite, and reconnect the device. Suite should now detect it.

[vc_message color=”warning” message_box_style=”classic” message_box_color=”alert-warning” style=”rounded”]

The steps for entering bootloader mode vary depending on the Trezor model. For instructions specific to your device, refer to the official Trezor support documentation.

[/vc_message]

Disable your VPN, firewall, and antivirus software

Trezor Suite communicates with the device over a local connection, which may be blocked by security software. Trezor recommends that you:

temporarily turn off your VPN if you use one;

temporarily disable any advanced firewall or antivirus settings that may be blocking local connections;

disable browser extensions such as AdBlock or Privacy Badger;

add Trezor Suite to the allowlist in your security software.

If Trezor Suite detects the device after this, turn your security software back on and add an exception specifically for Trezor Suite. Do not leave your antivirus software disabled.

Try another computer

The final diagnostic step in Trezor’s official guide is to connect the device to another computer, preferably one running a different operating system. This is the quickest way to determine whether the problem is with your Trezor or your computer. If another computer detects the device, repeat the USB driver and security software checks on your main computer.

If none of the above works

If no computer can detect the device when you are using a data cable that you know works, it is time to contact support.
